Management Team

Each member of the management team has twenty to thirty years of healthcare experience, and has had highly successful experience executing the same business model Ocularis is employing - developing new uses for existing products. Prior to founding Ocularis the management team proved its abilities at PathoGensis Corporation, a start-up company that developed and commercialized its first product, conducted an IPO in 1995 and was acquired in 2000 for over $700 million, creating a $500 million gain for investors.

Alan R. Meyer
Founder and CEO
Mr. Meyer was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of PathoGenesis and has more than 25 years of experience in finance, operations, and business development in the healthcare products industry, including eight years at PathoGenesis and six years at Baxter International Inc. Mr. Meyer earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

Keith D. Terry
Founder and Senior VP, Commercial and Business Development
Prior to Ocularis, Mr. Terry was PathoGenesis' Managing Director, International, where he managed all aspects of country operations outside the United States and Europe. Mr. Terry has over 20 years of experience in general management and product management in the healthcare products industry, including five years at PathoGenesis and seven years at Abbott Laboratories. Mr. Terry earned a Bachelor of Science in Bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business.

William H. Pitlick, Ph.D.
Vice President, Product Development
Dr. Pitlick was Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for Chiron and Vice President Regulatory Affairs & Clinical Development for PathoGenesis. Dr. Pitlick has 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical clinical development and regulatory affairs, including the FDA, the National Institutes of Health and Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. Dr. Pitlick received his bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. from the School of Pharmacy at University of Washington. Dr. Pitlick also received a degree in advanced training in Biomedical Research Management from Harvard University School of Public Health.

Gerald Horn, M.D.
Founder & Chief Scientific Officer
Inventor of Nyxol™ eye drops and VisiGel™ Contact Lens Conditioner. Dr. Horn received his BA from Northwestern University in 1973 and MD from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1977. Dr. Horn completed his internship in surgery at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in 1978 and residency in ophthalmology in 1981. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Horn is a well-known specialist in LASIK surgery and has been in private practice in ophthalmology since 1981.

D. R. (Dutch) VanDevanter, PhD.
Vice President, Medical Affairs Dr. VanDevanter was Director of Medical Communications at Chiron Corporation and has 20 years of experience. Dr. VanDevanter spent 10 years in academic medicinal chemistry and molecular genetic research, and then moved to the pharmaceutical industry, where he spent over ten years in discovery, preclinical, and clinic research. Dr. VanDevanter received an undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Biology from Western Washington University (Bellingham), a Master's degree in Toxicology from the University of Kentucky (Lexington), and a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Texas (Austin). Dutch is the author of 32 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 3 book chapters, and an issued patent.

Jill Van Dalfsen
Director, Clinical Operations Ms. Van Dalfsen was Associate Director of Medical Affairs for Chiron Corporation and has over 20 years of experience. Ms. Van Dalfsen spent 10 years conducting clinical microbiology laboratory testing in hospital and reference labs and 2 years teaching medical laboratory science, before moving to the pharmaceutical industry. Ms. Van Dalfsen spent 10 years in pharmaceutical lead discovery, clinical development and medical affairs. Ms. Van Dalfsen has managed the production of a successful NDA and has designed and implemented multiple clinical trials. Ms. Van Dalfsen received her bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has authored 7 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
